The Young Queen
After her time as supervisor, Amidala became the elected Queen of Naboo. She replaced King Veruna whose reign was surrounded by scandal, though perhaps through no fault of his character. Her choice elaborate gowns and make-up was filled with historical symbols important to her people.
It was shortly after her election that she found her home under attack due to the malice of the Trade Federation. Their plan was based around forcing Amidala to sign a treaty to make their occupation legal. They did not factor in the possibility that she would resist, that knowing the weight of the action would decide to fight them.
Escaping from Naboo with two Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn and his padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, several of her handmaidens, and a handful of guards, Amidala was travelling to Coruscant in hopes of saving her home. On the journey she met Anakin Skywalker, a young man who would change the course of her life forever.
In Coruscant she was greeted by Supreme Chancellor Valorum, a man who she found to be solidly for Naboo. It was later when she came before the Galactic Senate that she realized the corruption of Republic politics and the true hopelessness of her situation. She called for a vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Valorum and returned home to face the enemy herself. Recruiting the help of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Jar Jar Binks she travelled to the home of the Gungans. Securing their assistance she led a full fledged assault against the Federation. It was her bravery in this instance that won her much respect from other Senators later on, and much hatred from the Federation.
After the siege was broken Amidala continued to serve as
Queen of Naboo. When her two terms were up she refused to seek re-election, though the people
were willing to pass an amendment and make her Queen for life. Jamilla, her successor as Queen,
asked her to serve as Senator instead of retiring at the accepted age of twenty. Padmé agreed
and this started a whole new faze of her life, she was now Senator Amidala.
